"US attorney-general will seek a capital murder charge against an American jailed in Australia over the drowning death of his wife during a honeymoon scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef.

Alabama Attorney-General Troy King said yesterday he would pursue the capital charge, which can carry the death sentence, after a Queensland appeals court increased the jail sentence for David Gabriel Watson from one year to 18 months.

Watson, 32, pleaded guilty in June to the manslaughter of Christina (known as Tina) while scuba diving off the north Queensland coast on their honeymoon in 2003."
