It's no wonder the DC guys are great surfers; they know how to have a good time. "Dude Cruise," the long awaited surf flick from DC Shoes and Irons Brothers Productions premiered in early September at ASR. The boys all gathered for a long night: movie screening, open bar, delightful food (meat pies and buttery mashed potatoes) and tons of industry folk.
The film features Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Ry Crakie and Dane Reynolds. Besides some super epic Mex footage, the guys really shine through in this one. And by 'shine' I mean flip a truck over in the sand and throw ping-pong balls at each other. The film actually opens to Bruce driving a white truck into the ground, setting a rather interesting tone for the movie. This film is one that you should own because it's full of some great shots and amazing footy. Dane really comes alive in this movie, making him someone who has already made a lasting mark in the surf world.
We caught up with Dane and Bruce to talk a little bit about "Dude Cruise".
What should we expect to see in the film?
Dane: You should expect to see what really goes on when we go on surf trips. The waves aren't always perfect, and contrary to what most movies portray, we do fall.
Bruce: It's a surf movie that makes you laugh, based around a two week trip to some tiny town in Australia. Yeah, it's us surfing, but it's also us as we are out of the water. No skits, no acting, no lame interviews talking about how rad this guy is or that guy is.
What was the best part of shooting?
Bruce: I don't know. I guess the best part about shooting this was the crew we had. Not just surfers either. Everybody, including the guys who shot photos and film made for the trip of good vibes.
Dane: I think the part of shooting I liked most was once we crawled out of the car wreck. Bruce was put on driving probation by us, and there was a nice sense of safety from there on out.
