Marc Beauregard is an 23 year old musician and surfer from Hungtington Beach, California.

This winter, he decided to pack his boards, camera, guitar and leave California to stoke people around the world with his music. Known by his fans as Marc B, he feeds off positive energy and just like the rest of us, an empty lineup in a foreign land.

Sit back, relax and follow Marc B as he will be posting his travel updates here on Wetsand.com. Feel free to also drop him a line or two about his trips and journals.

Maybe by the time he finishes his route, you will have Googled your tickets already...

Chapter 1 - Costa Rica

Traveling outside of your bubble to find surf is quite possibly one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of a surfers' life. Your trip begins the moment you book a ticket. Once the goal is set, the countdown begins and the excitement takes hold.

We were about to board the red-eye flight to Houston, Texas and then to San Jose, Costa Rica when it dawned on me. I'm leaving for a month. I have no reservations. No plans. No money. All I have is this trusty digital camera, two boards (a 5'10" Dano Kustom Fish and a 6'0" Al Merrick T. Knox) and my guitar. This is my dream come true. The life I've wanted to live has been made possible. I've realized a dream once again. It feels good, right?

Right. But what didn't feel good was checking my account just before I left and not seeing a whole lot of money in there. When we booked the ticket more than a month prior, I was doing well. But a month in the United States without working can take its financial toll on you, especially in Huntington Beach. By the time I left, a lot of my money I had worked all summer to save for the trip had been spent. Regardless, I was going to Costa Rica, what more could I want?

My job is to travel around the world, live my life, write songs about my experiences, and perform them for surfers. My friend Demartino's ( job is to do the same thing with his artwork. Costa Rica is just another spot on the globe that we hadn't been yet. We were aching to learn a new life in Central America and to share our music, art, and stories with Ticos and Gringos alike.

Packing only took about an hour. The night before I took a trip to Big 5 Sporting Goods and R.E.I. to get the last minute camping necessities. I picked up a travel Backpack, a two-man dome tent (or a one man and his boards/guitar), and some cooking supplies. I also ran by my clothing sponsor Atwater to pick up some quality clothing for my trip. When I got home I sent some last minute emails to my manager and the rest of the record company. We got a ride to LAX and were in the sky before we even had time to think about it.

We flew through George Bush International Airport in Huston, Texas (ha!) and then into San Jose, Costa Rica. We were loading / checking / boarding / flying / waiting / checking / boarding / flying baggage claiming for about two days straight (note: this is how we got our flight so cheap. If you are an able bodied 23-year-old, I'd suggest looking at the flights that nobody else wants, that's where the deals are).

By the time we arrived in the Capital city of San Jose, we were so exhausted we could barely keep our heads up. We knew we had another four-hour bus (at least) to the beach from the city, and rain was pouring down (note: the wet season in Costa Rica means not quite as much sun, but it also means no tourists and bigger waves). We loaded onto the bus and both fell asleep. Little did we know what was in store for us once we finally made it to the ocean...
