Ventura Sacred Craft surfboard expo partners with Rerip

Encinitas, Ca -- Spring is a time for rebirth and renewal so in that
regard the Ventura SACRED CRAFT Consumer Surfboard Expo is putting out
a call to action. In partnership with Rerip.com, all attendees are
asked to bring an old surfboard to the SACRED CRAFT ReRip.com recycling
booth. The boards will be broken down and put into cement as filler,
keeping the landfills free of old surfboards.
"Rerip.com has been working with Ecocentric Renovations to
bring a cement product to the market place for non-structural usage
such as patios and desks," said Meghan Dambacher, ReRip.com co-founder.
"It is very rewarding to know that old surfboards are finding a new
home, a new home that is not a landfill. It's inspiring to see the surf
community step up, recycle their boards and be leaders in the movement
towards a healthy earth. Surfers are into action and we hope to recycle
a ton of boards at SACRED CRAFT Ventura. So please, by all means, bring
old boards down and drop them off at our booth!"
In addition, professional surfer Jeremy Sherwin, and business
partner Benjamin Thompson, who is pursuing a PhD in Structural
Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, will be giving
a seminar on the enviro-sensitive materials available to backyard
shapers. Expo producers are excited to also have a number of
eco-conscious specific exhibitors on hand including Surfrider
Foundation Ventura, Green Foam and Entropy Bio surfboards.
"In the big picture surfboard manufacturing is an infantecimal
speck in the large carbon footprint of the global industrial complex.
The efforts of ReRip.com and the entire surfboard building community,
whether it be polyester resin board manufacturers or the 100% wooden
Alaia, is about awareness and consciousness building," said Sacred
Craft operations guru John O'Connell. "We're taking baby steps, but we
will, as a manufacturing community, someday get to point where we are
building full circle, eco-sustaining surfboards without losing any
performance, consumer value or trade margin."
SACRED CRAFT VENTURA
WHO: Surfboard lovers from all over
WHAT: SACRED CRAFT Consumer Surfboard Expo
WHEN: May 16 & 17 2009
WHERE: Ventura County Fairgrounds, Surfers Point
WHY: Because surfers really only care about two things: Waves and the equipment to ride them with.
About Sacred Craft: In the beginning... it was all about the
surfboard. The only thing that mattered. From ancient Polynesia to the
ASP World Championship Tour; from Waikiki to Maverick's; from The
Endless Summer to Surfline; as the eras passed what we've worn or said
or listened to or traveled to or read or watched are just sidebars on
surfing's timeline.
Because the history of our sport is the history of the
surfboard. Nothing has defined the surfing experience more than that on
which we ride the waves. Nothing defines the surfer more than his (or
her) surfboard. So much more than a tool, the surfboard has become a
philosophical icon, a sacred craft, a culturally pervasive symbol of
freedom, adventure and enduring youth.
ReRip.com: Rerip.com
works together with the community to keep surfboards out of the
landfills, and to reduce the amount of waste from new surfboard
construction. Extend the life of your used board by posting it on
Rerip.com.
